Why did the Thing stay on Battleworld at the end of Secret Wars?
When Ben Grimm remained on the Secret Wars planet, I always assumed that was your idea — that you were at least trying to make the whole stupid thing have some impact on the characters. Was I wrong? JB: You’re half wrong, or half right, if you prefer! Writing MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE and, later, THE THING I very quickly realized it was hard to come up with a good Thing story which was not, by definition, a good FF story. So I had Ben stay on the Beyonder’s BattleWorld so that he could do some stuff he couldn’t do on Earth, and thus justify (in my own mind at least) why he had his own book.
