Why did the Texans want to defend the Alamo?
You need to understand this: Houston did not send people to defend the Alamo or make some stand to buy him time to train his men. Travis was sent by Houston to retrieve the cannons at the Alamo and to destroy the fortification. Travis arrived with his men and decided that this would be a great place to defend and disobeyed Houston. Houston sent word again to abandon the Alamo and bring the cannon and yet again Travis and Bowie disobeyed and sent out pleas for reinforcement. Davy Crockett heard of this and brought some men too. The 200 appx were soon surrounded and out numbered. That is when Travis sent out Seguin with a letter pleading for Houston and Fannin to come to his aid.
