Why did the SRMP establish closures within the stakeholder recommended snowmobile destination area?

The SRMP contains snowmobiling closures in some timbered areas between the valley bottom and the alpine snowmobiling areas of Oasis and Allan Creeks. Although these site-specific closure areas lie within the destination snowmobile areas, they also provide critical Mountain caribou habitat. If these specific areas were not protected, the entire destination snowmobile areas would be at risk of closure in order to protect Mountain caribou. The closures of these specific timbered areas are not considered by many snowmobilers to detract from the continued use of the larger destination areas. These smaller timbered areas do not have significant snowmobiling potential and their closure will not reduce the overall snowmobile potential or use of the Allan and Oasis areas.
