The majority of Italy at the time that the Romans started to developed into an empire was still under the rule of Greek empire, so as the Romans grew stronger and the Greeks grew weaker the people who became Romans carried on with their Greek ways which slowly got absorbed by the Roman culture. Infact most Roman People carried on speaking Greek & the rulers used Latin as a legal language. I hope that my answer helps.
