Why did the Republic of Ireland help Nazi Germany in WW2?

Ireland’s official position was neutral. However, from what I’ve read, the Irish government did what it could legally to help the British. I’ve also read that many Irish actually went over to Great Britain and enlisted or served in another capacity. The notion that all Irish hate the British I think is a bit of a stereotype. Likewise, Hitler had plans to invade Ireland to attack Great Britain and I believe the Irish Government knew this from all accounts. Edit – I left out that Ireland had to be neutral because at that time, their industry and military wasn’t up to fighting a war as the country was still young and the economy was poor.

Ireland did not help the nazis in ww2, all of the reasons stated in the previous answers are all very true, maybe you think otherwise because Churchill tried to get Ireland to come into the war on Britain’s side but De Valera refused, it is true aswell that Winston Church personally telephoned De Valera to gloat when he received word from Washington that the U.S was entering the war.
