Why did the Rangers only sign Vladimir Guerrero to a one-year deal?
It was a shared-risk deal. By doing a one-year deal, Rangers protected themselves against Vlad breaking down again. Vlad wanted a one-year deal to boost his value for another run at free-agency next year. Will Kinsler retain his same “upper-cut” swing from last year? My guess is he’ll stay with the swing-from-the-heels approach. Hard to change, even if it is not the best strategy. Muscle memory takes over in games. What do you think of moving Smoak to No. 2 and moving Michael Young down to No. 6? Young has a history in that position. Stay with the history. Let Smoak ease into big-league life. Rangers decided it was better to have 25 players but not Cruz for 15 days rather than 24 players for about five to 7 days but Cruz for the remainder of the 15-day period.
