Why did the Ramones name their band after the Beatles?

Dee Dee was a big Beatles fan. No crime in that. And I don’t see The Beatles and Ramones as polar opposites. The Ramones (Dee Dee and Joey, at least) had a lot of upbeat, pop influences like the Beatles, the Beach Boys, ’60s girl groups, etc. Since Dee Dee wrote the majority of their best stuff, that’s what came through and gave them their sound.
