Why did the puritans leave england?
After ripping out most of the church interiors during the civil war, the Puritans were in power during the commonwealth, and were such a miserable intolerant lot, that when the monarchy was restored, many simply wanted rid of their intolerant rules, and whole heatedly accepted back a catholic monarch. The real hard liners decided to set off for the new world to continue their drab existence. The resulting church of England was still an Anglican version of the Catholic church, it was not until James went a little power mad, and we invited William of Orange to be king, that it was finally set into its final version.
