The Pilgrams celebrated the first Thanksgiving because the year before when they arrived on land. They did not have provision of food and it was to late to plant. The first winter was know as the Starving Time. This was because alot of people died. In the Spring a indian named Squanto had came forward and spent a few months with the Pilgrams. During this time he taught them how to fertilize the land. Fish, stalk deer and such. At the harvest the Pilgrams invited the tribe to come and bring their families. There were 90 Indians that arrived. During this time they learned new games from each other, ate, and generally had a good time.
