Why did the pharaoh wear a double crown?
One of his official titles was King of Upper and Lower Egypt and the crown represents this. It comes from the time when North and South Egypt were two different countries. Then a powerful king came from the south and unified the two lands so the king was seen as ruling both lands. |From then on the idea that he was king of both lands was a very important one and in some ways represented his strength.
