Why did the Great Depression occur??
The following are reasons set forth by different economists. Some believe it’s one thing, others believe it’s another. It was probably a combination of several. The causes of the Great Depression are still a matter of active debate among economists. The specific economic events that took place during the Great Depression have been studied thoroughly: a deflation in asset and commodity prices, dramatic drops in demand and credit, and disruption of trade, ultimately resulting in widespread poverty and unemployment. However, historians lack consensus in describing the causal relationship between various events and the role of government economic policy in causing or ameliorating the Depression. Since the Great Depression occurred left 12,830,000 people unemployed. Prices fell so drastically that many farmers lost their homes and lands. Many also went hungry. Families also had to spit up and migrated in order to look for work. President Herbert Hoover discovered towns constructed of packing crates, abandoned cars and other cast off scraps that sprung up into the nation.
