Are we talking about the Great Depression in the 1930’s? If so, the Latin American economy when down. There was no improvement. Before the depression, the US imported a lot of goods from Latin America – Coffee from northern South America – more that we consume now. – Nuts from Brazil – Rum from Cuba – lots of it. – Fruits and vegetables (bananas, sugar, pineapple, ) and much more. Europe also bought a lot from South America Germany imported phosphates from Chile, England – Beef from Argentina Coffee from northern South America Rum Sugar And much much more The Depression hit the US first and then Europe went down too. Then South America had their market all but die on them. You see, America and Europe were buyers and Latin America enjoyed a good trad balance in their favor. When America and Europe had no money to buy goods from Latin America then Latin America had no money.
