Answer Brenda, The Normandy campaign is probably the most written battle in military history, and you should be able to find many sources of information. Definitely check out Cornelius Ryan’s The Longest Day. Also type “Normandy” in Google and do a search and many websites will show up. The Germans actually did a fairly good job at certain sectors on the Normandy beaches, but at others the Allies were able to break through. The Allies had surprise, control of the air and devastating naval gunfire on their side, while the Germans were stretched to the limit, and could not call up reinforcement from inland France because all the bridges had been destroyed by Allied aircraft. Anyway, you can find more info at the websites and books.
