Why did the former Polish Pope fail to acknowledge his countries involvement in the Jewish holocaust?
My grandparents are Russian but lived in Poland before the war and eventually were sent to a concentration camp. From what they said antisemitism was alive in Polish culture for centuries before WW2 (it’s still like that today….my poor brothers in their yarmulkes where taunted horrifically when we were in Poland for no reason except for the fact they are Jewish). Secondly Poles and Slavs were not held in high regard by the Nazi’s and were also persecuted though not as badly as us Jews. They would face the same fate as the Jews did if they were caught aiding them and many were brave and did help and hide many Jews. My grandparents said that it is hard to explain how cruel, sadistic and evil the Nazis were to the point it didn’t seem conceivable that human being could conduct themselves like that.
