Why did the EPA delay final requirements for SI engines?
During the regulation comment period, the EPA received comments stating that the agency did not have adequate emissions data for SI engines. The commenters suggested the EPA should seek an extension to the original ruling to allow time to collect additional data. This would provide enough time to develop adequate requirements for SI engines. The EPA agreed and obtained a six month extension to the original regulation.
