Why did the Coroner decide that Pneumonia, not drugs, caused Corey Haims death?”
Coroner: Pneumonia, not drugs, caused Haim’s death By ROBERT JABLON (AP) LOS ANGELES — Actor Corey Haim had traces of several prescription and over-the-counter drugs in his system when he died two months ago, but that’s not what killed him, the Los Angeles County coroner concluded. Haim, 38, died of natural causes from pneumonia that damaged his lungs, according to an autopsy report released Tuesday. The pneumonia was complicated by an enlarged heart and narrowed blood vessels, the report said. The drugs in his system also included the antidepressants fluoxetine and olanzapine; the tranquilizers diazepam and meprobamate, which are found in Valium and other medications; the cough-suppressant dextromethorphan; and the antihistamine diphenhydramine. The attorney general said his investigators found evidence that Haim received drugs from an illegal prescription mill, and then revealed that the actor was “doctor shopping” for medications in the weeks before his death. But a coroner’s report released Tuesday found that drugs did not play a role in Haim’s death. Rather, he died of respiratory distress related to pneumonia with the presence of an enlarged heart
