Why did the Board of Directors approve entry into a Medicare Part D program?

• Answer: The Board of Directors consider many types of medical and prescription and benefit plans during the course of the year. The Federal government offered two types of programs for 2007 a Subsidy and a Part D Medicare program. The decision to utilize a special Subsidy program for 2007 was decided upon versus going into the first year of the Medicare Part D program. The Federal Subsidy program returned more than $7 million dollars to NMHCRA in support of the prescription program. After a review of the Medicare Part D program the Board decided to enter into the Federal Medicare plan and Express-Scripts would continue to administer the program. The estimated return to NMRHCA for the Medicare Part D program could bring additional dollars from the Federal government. This return would support the ongoing efforts to support the financial solvency plans of NMHRCA.
