Why Did The Ancient Aztecs Belive In Their Religion?
One of the noticeable things about the Aztecs is that many of their religious traditions, as far as they are known today, came more from the Tolpecs, the people whom they conquered in the 12th century. It is believed that they continued their history of conquest and migration because they believed that one of their principal gods, Huitzilopchtli, had commanded them to move downwards from Northern Mexico. In the 14th and 15th centuries the Aztecs were spectacularly successful, which would no doubt have reinforced this belief. Like many other religions, the Aztec beliefs were founded on human sacrifice; one of their most important legends stated that the original sun god had needed the blood of other gods to bring him power, and in the same way it was widely believed that the powers of nature required blood sacrifices to keep them going.
