Why did the American Cancer Society form ACS CAN?
Up until now, the American Cancer Society has been limited in how we can do legislative advocacy to protect the interests of cancer patients and their families. That’s why ACS formed ACS CAN. ACS CAN is a more effective advocate at the local, state and federal levels of government and opens the door to a world of advocacy tactics and tools not currently available to the Society because of the Society’s tax status. What is ACS CAN doing now? Right now ACS CAN is creating a smoke-free country, educating voters on a variety of issues that impact cancer, building a grassroots army and ensuring that every woman has access to mammograms and lifesaving cancer screenings. Your support team ACS CAN’s existing advocacy volunteer structure has “ACT! Teams” in every Congressional District in the country four to five advocacy volunteers who have taken a leadership role in organizing and mobilizing volunteers in support of advocacy. These teams help lead all of ACS CAN’s advocacy efforts. In the sam
