Why did the alliance system and the arms race make europe a dangerous place in 1914?
The alliance systems made Europe dangerous because when Germany kept defeating other countries to gain land France felt threatened and scared which then led them to make an alliance with Russia who also surrounded parts of Germany, this made Germany feel encircled thinking that they could be attacked from both sides. Germany then made allies with Austria-Hungary, and since Russia wasn’t well equipped with all the modern weapons France asked Britain to join them, meanwhile Germany thought that Britain was on there side because the royals were distantly related and Britain hated France. Germany was surprised when Britain refused them as allies, which made them try to intimidate Britain into being allies with them by making a Navy. Britain then scared accepted France’s proposal of an alliance. Germany was then in a very dangerous situation.
