Why did some people choose to stay in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit?
What many people don’t realize is that it was not the winds of the hurricane that caused most of the devastation and destruction, but rather the levees that broke. They had no way of knowing the levees would not hold up, and there were no warnings that it could happen. It was the flood waters from the broken levees, rather than the high winds that caused most of the damage and deaths.
