Why did some Americans refer to the Spanish-American war as “Splendid little War”?
I cant help you with the second part. It was a Splendid War because at the turn of the century war was still very romanticized in the minds of non soldiers. America had not been a war since the civil war and people at home thought it might be fun to fight a little war. Yellow Journalism also played a big part, and the USS Maine made a convenient excuse for the war.
