Why did Peter the Great forced his first wife to become a nun?
Because he didn`t love her.When they married they were very young, and they didn`t love each other.Later Peter the Great fell in love with another woman, but he could not just devorced with his first wife, she had not any righr to have another man after they part and it was more safe to forse her to become a nun…Let me tell you,that even we,Russians admire Peter the First , he was rather cruel!!!!
“Tsarina Evdokiya Feodorovna Lopukhina (August 9 (O.S. July 30), 1669, Moscow, — September 7 (O.S. August 27), 1731, Moscow) was the first wife of Peter I of Russia. They married in 1689 but divorced in 1698. She is also the mother of Tsarevich Alexei Petrovich and the paternal grandmother of Peter II of Russia. Eudoxia was born to Feodor Abramovich Lopukhin and Ustinia Bogdanovna Rtishcheva. Like parents of all the 17th century Tsarinas, they did not belong to the highest aristocracy. She was chosen as a bride for the Tsar by his mother Natalia Naryshkina primarily on account of Eudoxia’s mother’s relation to the famous boyar Fyodor Rtishchev. She was crowned Tsarina in 1689 and gave birth to Grand Duke Alexei Petrovich of Russia the following year.
