Why did people in the 18th Century wear powdered wigs?
People wore wigs because it was a symbol of their status in society. If they wore wigs they were considered high up in society. If people were seen at parties without wigs they were often looked down upon. Wigs were a fashion statement and it allowed people creative freedom with their hair. They could have different wigs for every important occasion.
