Why did Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi.?
He was a member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or RSS (National Volunteers’ Organisation in English) that was/is a hardline Hindu nationalist group that believes India only belongs to Hindus. Originally Godse and those who were his political mentors supported Gandhi, but as they became more radicalized (especially with rise of the All Indian Muslim League to which they were vehemently opposed) they began to turn against him. They felt that Gandhi was sacrificing Hindu interests in an effort to appease minority groups. They blamed Gandhi for the Partition of India, which left hundreds of thousands of people dead. At Godse’s trial it became obvious that he was mentally unbalanced and had been hugely manipulated by others. Jawaharlal Nehru, as well as Gandhi’s two sons, felt that he and the others on trial for the murder were pawns of RSS higher-ups.
