You’ll have to ask a veterinary opthamologist. One of the most likely causes is PRA- a disease that causes detachment of the retina. Since this disease is in many breeds, including Samoyeds and Japanese Spitz were bred down from Samoyeds this could be the cause. There is a test all Samoyed (and their derivitives) breeders should do to determine carrier status for PRA before breeding. Edit: There is PRA in the US in Samoyeds.. I’m surprised that there isn’t any in the UK. As far as whether they were bred down from Samoyeds… I’ve seen both Samoyeds and German Spitz noted as being their ancestors. One theory of origin is said to be a descendant of the large size white German Spitz, brought to Japan around 1920’s, via the continent of Siberia and North Eastern part of China.
