Why did martin Luther king want to set equal rights between African Americans and whites?

I am sure you will receive many answers for this question. However, one interesting concept to ponder is the following: African Americans are the only race in America who’s ancestors did not come here willingly looking for a better life. they were captured, and forced to come here. Even after the fall of slavery in the south slaves were emancipated but they were given NOTHING to help them start a life. in America today, (as well as in King’s day) African Americans were still feeling the social and economics affects of this. King was not asking for members of the African Americans to be treated better than anyone else, but rather, to give them equality, equal education, pay, employment opportunities. He was asking this so that members of his race could venture forward and compete in an already competitive world.
