Why did Marion Jones confess all of a sudden?
During the federal investigation of Jones’ use of steroids she lied to the federal investigators. Lying to federal investigator is a crime. (Martha Stewart didn’t go to prison for insider trading. She went to jail for lying when she was questioned by the SEC.) A Sept. 3, 2003, search warrant at BALCO uncovered ledgers, purchases, doping calendars, and various blood-test results connected to Jones and Graham When it came to the point in the investigation when the government was ready to charge Jones, she faced a number of charges.. She made a deal to plead guilty to lying to federal investigators. She also pleaded guilty to a second count of lying to investigators about her association with a check-fraud scheme. In the check-fraud scheme, Jones admitted lying about her knowledge of the involvement of the father of her child, Tim Montgomery, her agent, Charles Wells, and her former coach Steve Riddick.
