Mrs Thatcher was a real Conservative, a politician who believed in “little government,” meaning that she did not believe in government interfering in businesses which they did not understand. Socialists believed (and still do) that the state should own (quote) “methods of production, distribution and control.” They believe that the economy, including all major industries, transport and utilities should be owned and controlled by the state, ie. civil servants. Most civil servants, as well as most Labour politicians, had little or no experience in running industrial concerns, had no management experience, etc. but, because the state ( that is you and me as taxpayers) could be forced to foot the bill for their failings, these concerns became over staffed and inefficient.
