why did lincoln write the gettysburg address
When President Lincoln wrote and delivered the heartfelt speech entitled the “Gettysburg address”, it was a time in history when Presidents did not often give speeches. However, the opportunity for Lincoln to share his thoughts on the war was an opportunity he did not pass up. So he wrote this because he wanted to make a powerful statement regarding war and because the Battle of Gettysburg had taken place and thousands of men on both Union and Confederate side had been killed. This number of deaths had really stunned many.
