Why did LeBron James join the Miami Heat?
LeBron James is said to have left the Cavaliers because of an unsuccessful seven-years. James is searching for a championship ring and believes joining Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in Miami will do the trick.
"The things that the Miami Heat franchise have done, to free up cap space and be able to put themselves in a position this summer to have all three of us, it was hard to turn down. Those are two great players, two of the greatest players that we have in this game today," James says in regards to Wade and Bosh who were Olympic teammates with James and brought home the gold medal.
"Winning is a huge thing for me," James admits. James has negotiated a contract with Miami just yet, but supposedly will be accepting a significantly lower salary than the Cavaliers or the Knicks were offering him because of the all-star line-up Miami offers. Heat owner Riley is "thrilled." Why wouldn’t he be? He has three of the biggest stars in the NBA right now!
Unfortunately, Cleveland feels the harsh reality. Dan Gilbert, owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, called James "narcissistic" and "self-promotional." Gilbert continues by saying that he is "bitterly" disappointed.
According to his interview with Jim Gray on ESPN "The Decision", James states that he agreed to sign with the Heat because it gives him the best chance of winning multiple championships. With both him and Chris Bosh joining Wade, the Heat have one of the most formidable trios in the league. However, it will be interesting to see if the team has enough cap room to surround these three players with enough talent to contend for the title next season.
