Why did kids/teens in the olden days spend so much time either playing outside or reading?
Those were the great childhood times!! Speaking from experience, there was nothing better as a child than playing outside, getting muddy, building dens and all else. We’d come home from school, dump the schoolbags, play outside, come in for tea, then out again until it was time to go home and have a bath to clean off all that lovely mud. Homework would be done at some point inbetween, somehow! Come the weekend we’d go out all day, given the chance. Brilliant! I never swam in the sea, I was more of a paddler round the edges type of girl, but it was still fun. As for reading books – great for the imagination and far from boring (especially if the book was particularly exciting!). Yes, we children of those ‘olden’ days had no games consoles, TV was 4 channels (only 1 or two had a couple of hours kids TV (teen TV did not really happen until the 80’s, even then it was an hour or two a week).
