Why did John DeLorean choose stainless steel?
Originally John DeLorean intended to use light weight composite panels, which would keep the weight of the car down and allow the owners to easily switch between different colour options, or replace damaged panels. At the time, the cost of developing such tooling was too high, so he opted for stainless steel – on the basis that it would be a unique feature, and would not rust.
