Why did it take until President Obama to fix school lunch safety problems?
The federal government should not be meddling in school lunch safety. It took until Obama because he, like every progressive, believes in totalitarian government more so than any other president. Progressives love to control our lives, for “our own good.” They like to ban things like alcohol, smoking, trans-fats, light bulbs, and elements of the periodic table, particularly the ones exhaled by every living creature. If you’re worried about school lunch safety, pack your child’s lunch yourself.
I wasn’t aware that he had done so. Call me insensitive and mean but I think that school lunches should not the school systems’ obligation. When I was a young boy growing up and going to school my family was very poor. For much of that time I was cared for by my single mother. We didn’t even have a television though most of my friends did. We had no T.V. until I was 17. My mother marked the tub showing me the maximum amount of water I could use to take a bath (in order to keep the water bill down). My jeans had patches but they were good patches done by my mother by hand. She packed a lunch box for me. Oddly, I still like peanut butter – it did not ruin me. In fact, nutritionally, I probably ate better than most kids do today. There was very little in the way of junk food. I think it’s time to divert school lunch expenditures toward health care for all.
