Why did illinois government wait until after election for announcing governor scandal?
1. The Illinois government did not announce the Blagojevich scandal. The federal prosecutor for the northern district of Illinois, Patrick Fitzgerald, announced the scandal. 2. There was no scandal before the election. Before the election, Barack Obama was the junior senator from IL. After the election, he was the president-elect. Then his senate seat would be vacant. 3. IL. law states that the governor will appoint someone to fill a vacant senate seat. 4. The feds have wiretap tapes from Blagojevich’s phone in which he said that he would not appoint anyone unless they paid him first. That’s the scandal. Now, how could the IL government have announced this before the election?
