Why did Hitler kill himself?
Hitler killed himself to prevent Allied forces gaining the satisfaction of capturing him. British and Soviet Union soldiers were 800 metres from his bunker when he committed suicide. The Nazi Dictator would rather take his life, than endure the humiliation of a defeat and destruction of his master Aryan race. It was a concept he did not want to imagine, nor participate in – he wanted to die peacefully, without possible torture or questioning after he was apprehended. Allowing any of the enemy to gain credit for bringing him to justice or exploit him was out of the equation. We can also see that the Kraut himself was mentally unstable, and the sheer lack of rational thinking would have been a clear contributor to his actions. Was Hitler afraid as you suggest? Maybe he was scared of the physical consequences that were going to follow, but in my opinion it’s more likely that he did not see a future for Germany after the degradation of the Third Reich.
