On Saturday government placed 26 striking doctors under suspension and warned the remaining ones to join the duties. “I told the doctors that their demands will be addressed and we will plead their case in the cabinet. It was an invitation that government was going to agree to their demands. But by continuing their strike they are trying to take government for a ride,” saidAbdul Rahim Rather, a senior minister in the local government. The government has also issued advertisements in the local press seeking applications to fill the doctors’ vacancies. The move is aimed at sending a strong signal to the striking junior doctors.
