Harriet tubman was a former slave. She wanted to lead other slaves into freedom. Canada had already abolished slavery so she lead them there. They didn’t stay in the North US because of the Fugitive Slave law which said that any slave found would have to be sent back. The Slaves were better off going to Canada where US laws didn’t apply.
