Why Did God Smite Don Wildmon, American Family Assn Founder?
In what many will doubtless see as brutal irony, American Family Association founder Don Wildmon was hospitalized this weekend after being smitten by God with meningitis. He is presently in critical but stable condition. AFA President Tim Wildmon said his 71-year-old father was diagnosed with the disease over the weekend. On Monday, Wildmon said his father’s condition had improved over the last 24 hours. Meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord. Don Wildmon’s Christian right organization began as the National Federation for Decency in 1977, promoting family values and waging boycotts to combat what it deemed pornography and violence on television and in magazines.
