Why did God make us with sexual feelings that continue long after we are capable of bearing children?
This question is thoroughly answered by the Catechism, in the section of the sixth commandment. “Sexuality affects all aspects of the human person in the unity of his body and soul” (paragraph 2332). So we recognize that sexuality is at the core of a person’s identity, in all stages of life and in any state of life. For a married couple, the marriage act has two distinct purposes: “the good of the spouses themselves add the transmission of life” (paragraph 2363), and so is not limited to spouses of child-bearing age, since marriage is lifelong.
