Why did Gerard Way write Welcome to the Black Parade?
Gerard has a theory about death. He thinks that when someone dies, death comes to them as one of their favorite memories. The song is telling a story of a man who died at a tragically young age and death came to him as a parade because his fondest memory was going to a parade with his father when he was younger. The parade is called the black parade because it is representing death.
