Why did Fritz Haber, a Jew, invent Zyklon-B, the gas used to kill many Jews in the Holocaust?
It actually was invented as an insecticide, not a tool with which to slaughter human beings. Used properly, it was not that much more hazardous than other chemicals meant for the same purpose. But when dumped into a confined area, it proved wholly toxic to humans. It was a very unpleasant way to die – people did not just take a whiff and collapse. Killing a roomful of people could take up to half an hour, and that was half an hour of horrible pain in your chest, struggling to breathe, your lungs filling up with fluid and everyone peeing and pooping on themselves as they struggled, screamed, gurgled, died…
Actually Zyklon-B was initially invented as an insecticide. It wasn’t until after Haber’s death that it’s use in genocide came about. Haber did however invent mustard gas as well as methods of deploying Chlorine during World War1. He was driven by extreme Patriotism. It was believed by many that poison gas was more humane than bullets. Haber also invented synthetic Ammonia a chemical used in fertilizer and explosives. Ultimately when The Nazi Regime came to power in 1933 Haber had been chased out of Germany and died a year later. Members of his extended family also died in concentration camps possibly by Zyklon B.
