Why did france ban the burka. how can you call your self a democratic country when?
The Burka was banned after a 246 to one vote in the French Senate. Pres. Sarkozy wanted the ban from the beginning, but he did not impose this ban on the people. Many western societies view the Burka to be taboo. It is a demaning piece of clothing imposed on women because people view women to be inferior, and worth only slightly more than any other possession. It restricts the wearers to walk through guidance only, due to the vision impair it causes. Those who chose to approve the ban more than likely voted the way that they did because those societies mandating the wearing of the Burka to begin with are treating women inhumanely. Was it a democratic process that forced women to wear this clothing in those societies? I think not. I agree: you cannot tell people how they can or cannot dress. It’s Fascist; but that issue needs to be raised with those societies that impose the wearing of the Burka to begin with, not France.
