Why did ford only issue a recall on sticky gas pedal now?

There were no reported accidents from Ford vehicles because of the accelerator pedal. Ford issued the recall after discovering they were using the same sub-contractor to make these throttle pedals that Toyota used. They issued the recall to be on the safe side and alert customers BEFORE anyone was hurt or killed. Ford wasn’t going to wait until 20 people lost their lives like Toyota did. I suspect when it all comes out the problem won’t be entirely the sub-contractor’s fault. I bet the sub-contractor made the parts exactly to Toyota’s specifications. The problem may have very easily been a flaw in Toyota’s design of the parts. What bothers me most is that you would think a critical component like the accelerator assembly would be inspected on every vehicle at some point of the assembly. If these parts were inspected by Toyota you would think that they would have discovered this design flaw and fixed it themselves before people had to die.
