Why did european countries participate in imperialism and a race for colonies?
Simple answer is money. The European countries didn’t necessarily want to make the territories they colonized part of their country per say, but they did want to exploit the resources of that country. The same could be said during the colonies here in America. Great Britain was getting wealthy from the natural resources and trade of and from the colonies but we had no representation in Parliament concerning taxes on trades and such. When this happens you have unrest and uprisings. Of course this may only be one facet of the issue but never the less a big one.
