Why did East Hampshire District Council compete for Eco-town status?

0

Residents in Whitehill Bordon told East Hampshire District Council (EHDC) that they wanted better facilities in the town – but they also wanted the environment protected. So the council formed a plan called the Green Town Vision and in April 2006 the Green Town Vision was adopted with unanimous cross-party support. We have commissioned EDAW, world-class planners, to develop the masterplan which is based on the Green Town Vision. In July 2007 the Government brought out the Eco-town prospectus. This was seen as a way to deliver the Green Town Vision and so EHDC made its bid for Eco-town status in October 2007. However, if we get Eco-town status we will be able to go above and beyond the targets for protecting and enhancing the environment – as detailed in the Green Town Vision.
