Why did Dr Martin Luther King Jr fail to appeal to Black power activists?
Martin Luther King Jr did not appeal to all Black Power factions because some thought he was too conventional. He abhorred violence, which some in the Black Power movement viewed as necessary. The gains and progress of the civil rights in the 1960’s were somewhat caused by the Black Power movement. First, it raised awareness of the inequities of the day, and second many people realized that they had to deal with a moderate civil rights leader, or would be forced to deal with somebody far more radical.
