Why did DOS develop the new High Priority planning category, to allow single municipalities to plan for sustainable reductions in the cost of police, fire and highway services?
A. The change to the High Priority Planning grant category aligns the grant program with, and further advance the Governor’s message “… to save taxpayers money by lowering costs, sharing services, eliminating duplication, improving service delivery…” with “…creative ways to lower State and local property taxes.” By providing this new category the Department of State is advancing the Governor’s goal by providing local governments with a funding opportunity to not only look at sharing services as a way to lower costs, but also to look at eliminating duplication, improving service delivery and other creative ways that can result in permanently lowered local property taxes.
