Why did Desi leave Cuba?
Desis father was elected to the Cuban Congress in 1932. On August 12, 1933, during the Batista revolution, the Congress was dissolved and most of its members, including Desis father, were imprisoned. The Arnaz properties were confiscated, and their homes were burned to the ground. Desi escaped to Havana with his mother. In 1934, Desi successfully arranged his fathers release from prison, and then together they emigrated to Florida.
