Slavery was only profitable in the South you couldn;t grown cash crops such as cotton,tobacco, or rice in the North. So it became more and more popular in the south and was eventually outlawed in North and it didn’t matter anyway because their was any demand really for slaves in the north. It wasn’t worth to pay slave to grow corn for example. What really cause slavery to boom in the south was the invention of the cotton gin until it had been invented the south was thinking about doing away with slavery as well but the cotton gin made it possible for one slave to seperate ten times more cotton in one day than it would take a whole plantation worth slaves to do in that same day make cotton way more profitable than was and cause cotton plantations to spring up all over the place and eventually the souths economy start to revolve cotton growig to the point if they freed the slaves their economy would crash.
